Scraps

Scraps are like an eco system. Big scraps get used to make smaller projects and the smaller projects' scraps get used to make even smaller projects, etc. Dan Zen generally keeps all his scraps to the dismay of some... let's take a look!
Boards ▲ At the back of the garage, Zen mounted an upside down table on a table to hold wooden boards in a trough-like manner.
Wood ▲ Zen made a tray with castors that slides out from under the work bench to hold wooden slats. Then there are boxes, buckets and crates for different types and sizes of scraps. He keeps a bucket for dowels, rods and tubes.
Chess Scraps ▲ Various projects have certain types of scraps and sometimes these are stored per project as they are here with scraps from the Chessboard Zen made.
Crazy Carpet ▲ are another example of specific scraps. These will become a hanging mobile, or a Halloween costume... who knows! In the upcoming years, they will become a part of a dozen projects.
Trunks of Tin ▲ A musty trunk was good for holding larger tin like ducts, racks, fins and pans. Drawers of tin are stored beneath the raw-material work table.
Computer Parts ▲ Zen loves working with old computer parts to make medallions, art, furniture, landscapes, etc.
Many Containers ▲ hold scraps from taking apart an old adding machine, buckets of hoses from hose bead projects, baskets of string, bags of material, etc.
Paper ▲ Pictured above is one of Zen's locations for paper scraps - another holding larger cardboard is behind the trunk. The location shown here has two levels and holds all sorts of sheet material like bubble wrap, thin foam, vinyl, wallpaper, Mylar, scrolls of card, felt, etc. Zen uses these for many projects and for wrapping presents. He also has a shelf in his den of more refined paper.
Boxes of Scraps ▲ Zen rarely throws away anything including invites to events, ticket stubs, messages, posters, cards, etc. Below we explore past events in the life of Dan Zen by scattering his scraps. Press the pictures to view at larger resolution.

Dan Zen Scraps 5 ▲ has some Kraftwerk and other "Kraut" rock, a Steve Mazza, a Hollander Maui invite, Canadian New Media Awards brochure where Zen won Programmer and Educator of the Year, Focus Gallery show, an FITC badge, TEDx Oakville flyer (Zen just spoke at TEDx Hamilton), a to do list, birthday cards, an H magazine, and Elliot's eyes.
