Polls

Dedicated to the curious

Here are a number of Dan Zen Polls. The polls below are from Tapoll and are live - so please do as many as you like! Below are other survey tools that Zen has created and used over the years.

▲ TAPOLL - Initially, Tapoll started as Predict-a-poll in 2005. Then came the Web 2.0 craze and Predict-a-poll was shortened to Tapoll and modernized. This is one of the only examples on Dan Zen where the original site has been updated. There have been menu updates but even the old menus are kept active. Opartica had a version 2 called Tunnel, but the original Opartica is still here. Tapoll has a unique and powerful feature where you vote on what you think the most popular answer will be as you vote on your answer. Why don't you make a poll? Tapoll uses a unique e-mail login and admin system. TRY TAPOLL
Polls - Petition

Polls - Petition
▲ Petition Poll (2014) - here is a neat blend of concepts: you poll the public and present the results as a petition.
Polls - Formizer

Polls - Formizer
▲ Simplified Survey Format - In 2002, Dan Zen wrote a short language called SSF used to easily write surveys and then a translator which would convert the SSF to HTML forms. Zen used this tool on a number of Form Web Applications that can be seen in the next section of the exhibit. Formizer was a quick tool to let others using the Dan Zen tools create with SSF. Polls - Slate
▲ Slate (2002) - A basic survey tool written in Perl. Slate provided a powerful reporting feature where you could dig deeper into the data. For instance, of all the people who said yes to question 1, what was their answer to question 2. The code was incorporated into several productivity tools - see below. Slate made use of Simplified Survey Format (SSF) - see above.

Polls - V-bod
▲ V-Bod (2002) - Dan Zen used Virtual Board of Directors (V-Bod) for his site, Dan Zen. He also used boards for teaching. At one point Zen was promoting the tool to businesses and provided services to several Web companies. The tool was completely "white labeled" with headers, footers, admin systems provided. It combined a survey tool and e-mail tool to invite members to take surveys along with all the reports you could want. The reports included a feature called ZERO COMPARE where you could combine survey results and dig deeper based on answers. For instance, if you surveyed the board based on general likes, such as hobbies... you could bring those answers into a survey about a brand and find out what logo members who enjoyed sports liked best. The reports also showed how many members opened e-mail invites and their response rates. This was very cutting edge for the time.
Polls - Alumnizer
▲ Alumnizer (2002) - a rewrite of V-Bod to handle keeping in touch with Alumni. In the end, Dan Zen decided to leave productivity tools and concentrate more on expressive apps and storytelling. Visit the MUSEUM ARCHIVES for examples.
