December 1 Dan Zen Expo Exhibit

Moog

Dedicated to John Schustyk - and of course Thee Gnostics

This exhibit includes various Gnostics and solo Moog recordings. Dan Zen has a 1974 Moog Satellite which he plays through a delay pedal and a chorus pedal. Enjoy and space out!
Moog Satellite
Moog Satellite ▲ Dan Zen purchased the 1974 monophonic Moog Satellite in the mid nineties from Brian, a cousin of Gnostic member, Gaven. He played through his Traynor tube amp he used during the Chessmen and also delay and chorus pedals. Zen's favourite is thin for glides, bell with reverb and sustain for growls, spacy sounds and sirens, and lunar for wigged out solos. Unfortunately, the lunar setting was intermittent.

Dan Zen on Moog ▲ Often in cape or robe, Dan Zen wore space helmets or goggles, shot space guns, added extra arms, and played behind the G-Console while taking off and landing.
Moog - Gorgolon Compilation - Thee Gnostics
Gorgolon (1995) ▲ The above video and download link below is a moog-heavy compilation of songs from Gorgolon, a space concept tape that was produced by Dan Zen with a tube wrapped in a collage by Gnostics member, Gaven Dianda. The mix was made for the Moog Exhibit at the Dan Zen Expo. Gorgolon is the third Gnostics tape and is a collection of jams recorded primarily on a Sony Walkman at Thee Gnostic Temple on Barton in Hamilton, Canada. Dan Zen edited the songs in one night at his house on Queen where he also recorded Dawn of Origin 5 (Dueling Moogs), Mescarian Jungala (Retaw), the Gorgolonian Mantra and the Gorgolon ballad all on a Tascam four-track. The rest of Thee Gnostics over-dubbed bongos on Gorgolon and re-recorded the Mantra with their voices: The jams were Gaven and Tomas on guitar - Gaven on Sitar and singing, Dan on Moog and singing, James on Bass and Andre, Keon, Jay and Jeremy on drums. Fifty tubes were made and sold at the Gorgolon Release Party in Hess Village, Hamilton. Right Click and Save Link As to download:

Moog - Tangle Compilation - Thee Gnostics
Tangle (1994) ▲ The above video and download link below are a moog-heavy compilation of the second Gnostics tape after Cosmonosticus and before Gorgolon. The mix was created for the Dan Zen Expo Moog Exhibit. Tangle was compiled and edited by Dan Zen. 30 tapes were released with unique covers made from space-age material used in the Dan Zen game called Save Earth. The tape features jams of Thee Gnostics - Gaven, Tomas, Dan, James, Andre, Jay. Dan Zen considers the following to be among his faves (well, Origin 5 on Gorgolon is pretty cool too): Unfortunately, this beautiful ending to Vision was lost when the tape ran out. The songs were primarily recorded on a Sony Walkman and all were live and first time recordings.

Nanora (2014) ▲ Dan Zen created a short nano AI sci-fi for the 48 Hour Sci-fi Challenge. In this time, he also composed the Moog soundtrack mixed in with sounds from the filming which took place mostly in the bathroom of his house in Dundas, Canada. Zen particularly likes the closing scene music featuring an ethereal melody. DOWNLOAD MP3
