Inventing in the Kitchen has always been one of the most rewarding experiences for Dan Zen as he gets to eat his creations!
▲ Exotic Yogurt - a banana cut under yogurt with ginger marmalade and a sliced fig. Nothing beats a sliced fig for an exciting arrangement and exquisite exotic taste. Made in two minutes.
▲ Double Peanut Crackers - baked ranch crackers with peanut butter and roasted honey garlic peanuts. Very quick to make - the ranch crackers adds an initial grown-up taste which is taken over by the synergistically relaxing crackers and peanut butter flavour and then comes the smokey taste of nostalgia from the roasted nuts.
▲ Ginger Mint Cookie - mmm... homemade gingersnaps (RoseAnne) with mint chocolate chip ice cream filling!
▲ Graham Meal - Gouda Gherkin Grahams, Tuna and Pickle on Graham, Banana Strawberry Graham
▲ Brownies with Spread Ice Cream - cut the brownies in half along their horizontal plane so they are thin. Spread on some ice cream - it was cool to use a knife and spread it like butter. Cookies and Cream this time but it probably does not matter.
▲ Banana and Bran Bar Sandwich - amazing! Slice a banana in two, snap a bran bar in two and voila. The banana soothes the mouth and bar provides a lovely crisp insides. This replaces the bacon I used to use before I became a vegetarian.
▲ Dill, Cucumber and Yogurt with Crackers and Jalapeno Havarti - as the description says - very refreshing - thanks Russ for the produce.
▲ Pizza! Made on flour or corn Tortillas with a variety of toppings usually onion rings, pineapple, zucchini, mushroom, eggplant.
▲ Pizza! The tomato sauce is mixed with a special blend of Diana sauces, ketchup, BBQ sauce, Hot sauces like Frank's Bollywood sauce.
▲ Pizza! Zen mixes the sauces into one container then uses the mix on sandwiches as well like Westerns.
▲ Pizza! Zen puts the cheese on the sauce and then the topping on top so they crisp up in the oven but also does a light coating of parmesan and a heavy dusting of Italian seasoning and chili peppers.
▲ Baguette, Tuna, Dijon & Brie in Broiler - a five-ten minute meal - most delicious. The brie loses its harshness when melted and the little burnt bits are wonderful - do not under cook.
▲ Greens and cheese in a wrap with a yogurt pepper sauce.
▲ Tomatoes on Toast - Yum! If you have not tried this basic then would suggest you do. It takes a couple minutes for the toast - while waiting, slice a tomato in middle into two slices and then join the rest of the tomato, wrap with cellophane and refrigerate. Put mayonnaise on to taste and then crunch some pepper - really should be from a grinder. Yum!
▲
Peanut Butter and Marmalade with Ice Tea - another of the basics - but if you have not had a peanut butter and marmalade sandwich then you have to try! It's one the fastest / tastiest treats around
▲ Egg and Herb Cream Cheese Sandwich on Broiled Baguette
▲ Mediterranean Sandwich - half toast half pita roasted peppers, onion and goat cheese sandwich - strange experience - from about when I started wearing mismatch socks.
▲ Pad Thai Salad with Lime - just the left over pad thai on bean sprouts - good way to make sure your bean sprouts don't go bad - very refreshing!
▲ Curry with Bananas - if you have not tried curries with bananas then surely you must! Raisons, chocolate chips, apples are good too. Add no fat sour cream or yogurt to your dishes too right at the end and heat it a little. This one is a tuna curry - my favourite with eggplant, onions and mushrooms.
▲
Seafood Pasta in Vodka Sauce - mmm... I get a craving for this one quite a lot. Here with zucchini but good with eggplant.
▲ Shrimp Linguini - in a white wine cream sauce.
▲ Start of a Fine Pasta - stir fry in the wok while boiling the pasta. Then add the sauce and simmer - don't forget the Italian seasoning and chili peppers. This one is missing eggplant and mushrooms - but that's okay, we'll get them next time.
▲ Noodles with Onion, Nuts and Tofu Braised in Sesame oil with Honey Ginger Sauce
▲ Vodka Shrimp Linguini with Leaves - mmmm.... shrimp, onions, eggplant, in vodka pasta sauce on linguini - great for the Autumn...
▲ Grilled Brie with Ginger Horseradish Baste & Fruit Nut ToFu Honey Drizzle Yogurt & Bugles - Perhaps the title says all but I must say that spreading a mix of ginger puree and horseradish so that it sinks into the french bread (no butter) and then frying it - wow was it ever tasty. Melted Brie is always better in my mind - although nothing beats the basics of brie on a bagette with some pepper. To drizzle the honey on the yogurt, just plop it in the pan after you finish the sandwich - it melts nicely and drizzles well. Leave a touch of unmelted honey for a surprise.
▲ Five Minute Nachos - put some corn chips on a tin-foiled cookie sheet in the broiler and cover with grated cheddar cheese - cook for about five minutes or less until some browning on the edge chips. Optionally add some cut onions (just scissor off the ends of a bunch of green onions) Pour ample salsa on top with yogurt of NO FAT sour cream - tastes just as good! Chili Pepper it or you are a loser!
▲ Pineapple Wheatgerm Honey Lemon Dessert
▲ Yogurt Nut Pineapple Bran and Brown Sugar Medley
▲ Hummus with Dill Pickle and Pita - mmmm... Quick vanilla milk too!
▲ Fruit Salad with Roasted Marmalade Cashew Yogurt Sauce
▲ 2 minutes and 20 cents - mix 2 eggs with 1/8 cup milk or to taste and a couple pinches of salt, pour in buttered pan. Immediately toss a tortilla shell on top and press down lightly to flatten egg - it's fun! After about a minute, slide onto a plate and flip back into pan. Add liberal cinnamon to top of egg. Half a minute or until tortilla browns, put on serving plate and pour on syrup. Fold in half and drizzle on syrup perhaps with a bit of cinnamon or garnish with a shell.
▲ Hawaiian Eggplant Adored by Hula Girls - slice eggplant thickly (1-2 inches) then carve out cone with paring knife. Fill with tablespoon or two of tahini sauce mixed with juice from at least one lemon and a teaspoon of water and a dash of salt. Place sliced tomato on top - add optional half sliced hard-boiled egg then a slice of Camembert cheese or equivalent. Optional - top with cut cone of eggplant and garnish with herbs of Provence. Broil for 5-10 minutes. When I do this again, I will probably try without the egg and cone on top so the cheese gets crispy. The egg might have added too many flavours but it was not too bad.
▲ Crepes - best with butter, sugar, cinnamon, squeezed lemon and maple syrup - yes - all at once rolled up!
▲ Omelet with Raisin Bread and Bananas - Tangerine drink with key-lime half. Cheese omelets - mmmm.
